The Scrappy Elephant is one of the most joyful and original shops in all of Charlottesville — a creative reuse center filled with reclaimed and donated arts and crafts materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Since opening in 2020, they’ve diverted over 267,000 pounds of art supplies from the waste stream and put them back into the hands of artists, teachers, crafters, and curious kids at wonderfully affordable prices.

You’ll find yarn covering entire walls, bolts of fabric, paints in every medium, frames, paper supplies, stamps, fiber arts materials, sewing notions, jewelry-making supplies, and so much more — all sourced from generous donations from the Charlottesville community. The inventory changes constantly, which means every visit is its own adventure. There’s also a studio space for crafting in-store, art classes, and a cozy library corner. Kids have a dedicated play area while grown-ups browse. A perfect rainy-day destination — or any day, really.

The Scrappy Elephant also aligns beautifully with Sunset Farm Stay’s own eco-conscious values. Consider donating your unused craft supplies before you leave!
