If you’re up for a longer drive into Shenandoah National Park, Blackrock Summit delivers breathtaking 360-degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The boulder-scramble summit is particularly spectacular in autumn when the foliage turns. Note that the park charges an entrance fee and the drive takes about an hour from the farm — plan for a full day and bring a picnic. It’s absolutely worth it.

Short but mighty. Humpback Rocks is one of the most iconic hikes in the region — a steep mile that rewards with truly spectacular panoramic views from a distinctive rock outcrop on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The climb is challenging but brief, and the views at the top are among the best in the state. This one is worth the drive, especially in fall foliage season.

The Blue Ridge Tunnel is a genuinely unique experience. Built in the 1850s, this historic railroad tunnel cuts straight through the mountain and stays cool year-round — a welcome relief on a hot summer day. Walking through it (with a headlamp!) is something you won’t forget. The trail on either side is straightforward and family-friendly, making the tunnel itself the main event. A must-do near Charlottesville.
